Recently, Ramona accidentally (or maybe not so accidentally) let the chickens out of the run. When she finally got them back in, she checked inside the coop and found our first eggs!
Unfortunately, we will not eat these eggs. I stopped looking in the coop for eggs a couple weeks ago since the chickens were old enough to lay, hadn’t started laying, and the sunlight was reduced. We’re not sure how old these eggs are, so we’ll eat the next ones that come around since we’ll be more diligent in checking for eggs each day.
It is encouraging to finally see some eggs from our chickens. I was starting to wonder if this chicken venture was going to be a failure or if I had made some terrible mistake in raising them. Now we should start getting eggs a little bit and I can’t wait for the eggs flood this spring!
